The new Charleston Bridge is the largest of Charleston attractions and new home to the Charleston Bridge Run. Even if you are planning a trip to play golf in Myrtle Beach or teeing it up on on of the many Hilton Head golf courses, the short drive to view the Charleston Cooper River Bridge is well worth the trip.
The new Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Charleston Bridge replaces two Charleston bridges that have graced Charleston's skylinefor decades and are known world-wide because of the popular Charleston Bridge Run.
The newest in a long line of Charleston attractions opened on July 16, 2005. This bridge is not only the largest in South Carolina. It is also the longest cable-stay bridge in North America
The record-setting bridge features two diamond-shaped towers more than 570 feet tall, eight traffic lanes and a pedestrian lane.
The towers are tall enough for golfers to spot them at Kiawah Island.

Enjoy the Charleston Bridge Without a Car
Our favorite perks of the new Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Charleston Cooper River Bridge are the lanes set aside for walkers and cyclists. In the past the only safe way to cross the Charleston Bridges was to participate in the annual Charleston Bridge Run. Now, you can get a view of all of the great Charleston attractions from high above the Charleston Harbor.
So after your round of golf on one of Charleston's golf courses, replace your golf shoes with your running or walking shoes and enjoy the view from high above the Cooper River. Or bring your bike to ride over the Charleston bridge. Sorry, no golf carts are allowed.
