Monorail in Las Vegas - A Sure Thing?

Is the monorail Las Vegas' sure bet for touring The Strip while on your Las Vegas golf vacation?

The Las Vegas monorail is definitely an inexpensive way to enjoy the casino hotels along The Strip but is it a better option than The Deuce double-deck bus or a taxi?

Before we go any further, remember what we have told you before. If you purchased a Las Vegas golf package and are here on a golf vacation, then you will need a rental car.

MGM Grand Casino Las Vegas lion keeps watch.

Getting to most of the local golf courses, with the exception of the Bali Hai Golf Club, Wynn Golf Club and Las Vegas Country Club, will require a little driving so make sure to have your own transportation.

We will also disclose that we have never taken a ride on the monorail in Las Vegas. But one of our good friends has used this inexpensive form of transportation while visiting the city.

What was their opinion on the Las Vegas monorail? They told us, with strong conviction we might add, to stay away from it.

Why? Because of the route and location of its stops, they said you end up walking as much as riding.

The monorail in Las Vegas does claim to have "seven centrally-located stations" and "delivers you to some of the most famous and exciting Las Vegas attractions."

However unlike the city's bus service The Deuce, these stations are not on The Strip. Instead, they are located behind the casino hotels which requires you to take off the golf shoes and put on your hiking boots.

What are the Las Vegas monorail stations? According to the official website, the stations are the Sahara Station, Las Vegas Hilton Station, Las Vegas Convention Center Station, Harrah's/Imperial Palace Station, Flamingo/Caesar's Palace Station, Bally's/Paris Las Vegas Station and MGM Grand Station.

The monorail does have its positives. At $5 for a one-ride ticket, it is cheaper than taking a taxi. And if you are staying at one of the casinos where a station is located and traveling to another casino on the Las Vegas monorail's route, then it can be convenient.

However, a $5 fare will get you a ride on The Deuce for 24 hours and from a seat on the upper section of this double-deck bus you can enjoy all the sites along The Strip and ride all the way into downtown Las Vegas.

So to get back to the question we posed at the beginning, is the monorail Las Vegas' sure bet for touring The Strip while on your Las Vegas golf vacation?

We do not think so. We do think it provides a better option than hopping in a cab over and over while going from casino to casino.
But our best bet for inexpensive travel along The Strip is The Deuce.
