The Stardust Hotel Las Vegas, a legend among Las Vegas casino hotels, closed its doors November 1, 2006.

When the slots stopped spinning and the dice quit rolling at The Legendary Stardust Resort and Casino, a big chapter of "old-time Las Vegas" closed along with it.

The Stardust was often a favorite cheap discount Las Vegas hotel for golfers and other visitors to "Sin City." But it was not just a place to stay if you wanted to save money on your gambling or golf vacation.

I was lucky enough to be in town for the last days of the Stardust and it was evident when I visited the hotel the day before it closed that this legendary Las Vegas casino hotel will be missed by many locals and tourists alike.

And even though you can no longer enjoy the tasteful tackiness of the Stardust Hotel Las Vegas on your next golf vacation, hopefully like myself you have a few memories that even the worst roll of the dice will never take away.

A Taste of The Legandary Stardust Resort & Casino History
  • Doors opened July 2, 1958.
  • Cost $10 million to build.
  • Rates for one of the original 1,065 rooms was $6.00.
  • French production "Lido de Paris" was first entertainment.
  • Original sign featured 7,100 feet of neon tubing and 11,000 bulbs.
  • Received a $3 million fine from Nevada gaming commision in 1964.
  • Siegfried and Roy began their career at Stardust.
  • In 1999, Wayne Newton signed to largest entertainment contract in Las Vegas history at that time for a reported $25,000,000 per year.
  • Home of the "Las Vegas Line" for sports and race wagers.
  • Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme closed the Stardust Theater Oct. 28, 2006.
  • Closed its doors noon (Pacific Time) November 1, 2006
